Check Acceptance Tips

A clealy posted check acceptance policy can help reduce your losses.

Accept checks with todays date ONLY. Post-dated checks are not eligible for the Los Angeles County District Attorney Bad Check Restitution Program.

Trust your instincts! Ask questions or ask for another form of payment.

Bad Check

Points to consider when accepting a check
  • Get a complete street address (not just a PO Box) and verify home phone number.

  • Beware of new accounts.

  • Note the date on the check. Post dated checks are not eligible for the program.

  • Figure and written amount must match.

  • Observe the check writer's signature. Make sure the signature matches the check writer's I.D.
